Dr. Frédéric Suffert is plant disease epidemiologist at INRAE, the French National Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment. He holds an engineering diploma in agronomy specialized in Crop Protection and a PhD in plant pathology. From 2000 to 2007 he worked at INRAE Rennes on the epidemiology of soil-borne diseases. He currently works at INRAE Versailles-Grignon and heads the group Epidemiology of Fungal Wheat Diseases in the BIOGER research unit. He conducts research on epidemiology of Septoria tritici blotch of wheat (Zymoseptoria tritici) with particular reference to biophysical mechanisms affecting the disease development, sexual reproduction (including studies on the microbiota of wheat residues as source of primary inoculum), and adaptation of pathogen populations to biotic and abiotic heterogeneities (host resistance and temperature). He also regularly addresses issues of crop biosecurity and plant health risk analysis for governmental agencies. He is general secretary of the French Phytopathological Society (SFP) since 2016.
